Woman Dies While Trying to Pay for Parking in Garage

A 23-year-old woman was killed in Columbus, Ohio this week after her head got stuck between her car and a parking garage payment machine.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that police responded to the scene around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday morning after a security guard called to report the incident.

According to a statement released by the Columbus Police Department, the accident happened around 11:37 p.m. on Monday.

Security footage shows the woman, who was identified by police as Victoria Strauss, trying to leave the parking garage at 45 Vine Street.

While she was paying for parking on her way out, she dropped her card.

She opened her car door to reach down for her card. But Strauss accidentally hit the gas pedal, causing her car to crash into the payment kiosk.

Her head became trapped between the car door and the door frame. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Strauss originated from Florida. She was a graduate student at Ohio State University.
