An Arizona mother was arrested for physically abusing her children and stepchildren after they tested positive for COVID-19 and allegedly didn’t wear masks.

According to 12 News, 32-year-old Sarah Michelle Boone assaulted three of her children, who were between the ages of 4 and 14, for not wearing masks after they tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Court docs say officers responded to the home on Dec. 26 when a caller stated Sarah Boone assaulted her children by hitting one in the face with an open hand, kicking another on the ground and picking up another child by their neck,” 12 News reported. “The caller said she did it because the children tested positive for coronavirus and weren’t wearing masks.”

The children were not seriously injured.

Once police were called, Boone fled the scene and was found walking down the street. According to court documents reviewed by 12 News, Boone did not comply with police instructions and resisted arrest. Police were forced to wrestle her to the ground and tase her in order to make the arrest.

“Boone was booked on three felony counts of child abuse and misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She’s being held on a $5,000 bond and is instructed to not initiate contact with her children if released on bond,” 12 News reported. “Police tell 12 News Boone was arrested in September on similar charges involving the same kids. In November, they responded to her home twice for domestic violence involving the children as well.”

AZ Central reported that Boone “was under the influence of alcohol when she struck the children.”

Claire Louge, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse Arizona, told 12 News that parents need to learn to cope with stress to avoid taking it out on their children.

“This is heartbreaking. Child abuse is inexcusable, but it’s also preventable,” Louge said. “Stress tends to build so the job of prevention is really to help parents cope with that stress, and also to remove as much stress as possible. So, connect them to things that they need that might alleviate stress.”

The New York Post reported that Boone, of Wickenburg, Arizona, “was taken to Maricopa County Jail, where she was also booked on charges for assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.”

“She was released Tuesday on $5,000 bond and is set to appear in court Jan. 6,” the report also said.

The National Children’s Alliance states that nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S. each year, though statistics are often inflated by using broad definitions of what constitutes “abuse.”

“Nationally, neglect is the most common form of abuse. Three-out-of-five (nearly 61%) of victims were neglected only, more than 10% were physically abused only, and 7% were sexually abused only. Yet the statistics indicate a more complex problem where children experience multiple forms of abuse. In 2018, more than 15% of kids were polyvictimized (suffered two or more forms of abuse),” according to their website.

  1. Boone was booked on three felony counts of child abuse Not letting the kids wear masks would be gross abuse. Since she wanted them to wear masks, this is antithesis of child abuse, and she was a most caring devoting mother, and yet once again police abusing their authority tasing a loving doting mother.

  2. When will this whole Covid insanity going to end. People being attacked for not wearing mask, people being attacked for requesting people wear mask. Now a mother beating her kids for getting Covid., it’s all crazy. I think the isolation is getting to people.
