Ambulance Service Refuses to Send Responder to Save Baby Because It Would Be “Too Traumatic”

Wellness

A mother was forced to watch her newborn baby die after a local first responder was not sent out to help because they may have thought the incident was “too traumatic.”

After the tragic death of their baby, Megan Thrupp and partner Kris Low learned that a first responder was on their street at the time of the tragedy, but was not ordered to go help.

In this case, and probably many others, that early intervention could have saved the life of 19-day-old baby Eva.

Megan attempted CPR on Eva with the help of an ambulance service call handler. She thought trained volunteers were on their way.

But it took 35 minutes for an ambulance to come to the home.

“Pediatric matter just as much as everyone else and it is unjust that she was not provided the same chance of survival as another would have been,” Megan said.

Megan was at home with her mother when they became concerned with Eva’s breathing and called an ambulance.

“I panicked and ran towards my baby, who at this point had stopped breathing,” she said.

“The emergency call handler calmly discussed the CPR procedure and told me to apply this to Eva. My mother desperately waited for a first responder to appear as she could see the strain I was under. They never appeared and after a long 35 minute wait an ambulance arrived and Eva was finally in the hands of the professionals,” Megan said.

“The ambulance service think it’s too traumatic for first responders to attend children if there is a negative outcome. I think it’s more traumatic for us, to be honest. The woman who was on call in Anstruther that day said she would have come if she’d known,” Megan added.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it will reach out to the family directly to offer support.

A spokesperson for the company said, “This is a very tragic case and our deepest sympathies are with the family during this time. We are limited in what we can say publicly due to patient confidentiality but the Scottish Ambulance Service is committed to developing our Community First Responders (CFRs), as they form an integral part of our response. We are currently undertaking a review of the role of CFRs which includes considering the welfare and clinical safety of enabling CFRs to attend paediatric calls.”

  1. Those who issued the order not to go and the alleged first responders need public ally shamed them fired. They do not belong in this type of work.Tim

  2. That is totally insane. It’s the duty of first responders to try and save lives NO MATTER what the age of the person needing their help. Their excuse for not responding is BS.

  3. That isso stupid to not try to save a baby because if that reason. Babies deserve the best care that we can give them. Shame on those first responders.

  4. That is totally wrong this FR is supposed to be trained in these emergencies if not get the hell out of this line of work we don’t need you . This baby had a chance to live if the responder were properly trained and when do they have a choice as to who is to live or die just because they don’t think they can handle the situation. Please!!!!!

  5. I would sue the company and get them fired that’s bull crap they are supposed to save lives not be there support after the baby died get a life

  6. What y’all have missed is the reason for the lack of concern over a baby dying, the mentality of the world today is that a baby is not a person, just a parasitic blob, a mass of cells and therefore, it is OK to murder them inside and outside of the womb.

The only positive thing I can say about this incident is, the baby is now with the Lord in heaven II Samuel 12:18-23!!!! This world has come a long way the wrong way and we Christians are to blame because we did not complain and take action, this especially includes the organized church!!!!

    In Christ Jesus

  7. As a former fire/medic myself, I find this reprehensible. Where did this take place?!? No service I know of would ever delay care to kids. That’s insane.

  8. This sounds like CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE and needs to be prosecuted. One Enlightened Patriot. Team Trump and His Allies 2020 – MAGA (WE’RE NOT going away!).

  9. If the ambulance service cannot handle death situations, they should not be licensed to provide emergency services. In this case they should be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter.

  10. That dispatcher should lose her job, not to send the first responder is pure neglect. The service should sue the Ambulance Service and the community deserves a new service. Criminals charges should be looked into.

  11. I was a 1st responder and our training covered how to assist calls like this. This death is on the operators hands for not calling that 1st responder. Thinking that the call MIGHT have been traumatic. I would question the fact of the possibility of how many other calls that operator may not dispatched a 1st responder because of there opinion of what MIGHT be. Ist responders are trained to assist in any case of emergency till the Medics arrive. 1st responders if needed call for assistance by the Medics that are on the way also to allert them of the situation so that they are prepared when they arive. That Operatr must be terminated immediately.

  12. Screw all of you morons,if you won’t do your fing Job !!! You’re there to do the tough jobs ! If you don’t do it for in hell chicken shit assholes!!!!!!!!!

  13. Tramatica thats there job baby adult etc if a first responder cant handle it they need a different job. The disparher and her superiors need to be fired i can guarntee you The dispartcher and everyond involved would need a hospital or a morgue do your job or get the FUCK.OUT YOU WORTHLWSD PIECES OF SHIT

  14. Why aren’t they in jail for murder because they could have helped that baby the person that stopped them from going into that house should be charged with murder I have buried my baby from SIDS and the heart break from losing a baby nearly killed me so you should punish the people that didn’t help you I would by God I would so be pressing charges against them

  15. If responders handle the job they need to find another line of work like flipping burgers .that goes with that line of work your thankful when you can save a life and learn from the ones you cant.

  16. I am glad that I live in the United States. Then I do not have to worry about a dispatcher deciding to call for help or not.
See, the United States is a great place to live.

  17. You have to read almost the ENTIRE article to find out this incident did NOT take place in the US – another stoopid article, and YES, I did find it appalling that no services were rendered.. The service ought to charged with murder!

  18. Our government is not it use to be. They think babies don’t have any right. Every baby has the same rights as an adult to live. They all need to be thrown out of our government especially old pelsoi . I say every baby needs a chance to survive .

  19. It s shocking but it doesn’t surprise me especially with society being in Moral Decline !!! Life is Cheap anymore!!! Instead we live by the Laws of the Jungle, and not the Laws of the Land!!! We have traded God’s Holy Book for Facebook!!! This is today’s society; unfortunately!!!! We have chosen to forget all about Compassion, Respect, Accountability, Self -Discipline, Appreciation , and Love for One Another!!!

  20. Fire the Dispatcher and the supervisor because they left a baby die when they had the ability and responsibility to save a life. The company of the Dispatcher should be sued because of poor medical practices to patients. Is was pointed out that all of this happened in Scotland, that doesn’t help the situation at all. It actually makes the situation worst. Who are we, mere mortals, to determine who lives, and who dies, when we’re supposed to be dedicated to save ALL lives, no picking and choosing. If you can’t mentally do the job, then, you shouldn’t do this type of work in the first place.
