Two Dead After Terminally Ill Doctor Takes Hostages at Children’s Hospital
Two doctors are dead after a hostage situation at Children’s Medical Group in Texas.
According to Austin Police, Dr. Bharat Narumanchi murdered his colleague, fellow pediatrician Dr. Katherine Dodson. He then fatally shot himself after holding staff at gunpoint in the children’s hospital.
Police received a call that an armed man entered the building and was holding multiple people hostage.
When authorities arrived, some staff members escaped through a back door. Others took shelter at the dentist’s office next door.
Witnesses said the man had a pistol, a shotgun, and two duffle bags.
Hostage negotiators pleaded with Narumanchi to back down. Meanwhile, other officers were gathering as much information as they could about the doctor.
They discovered that the 43-year-old had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Doctors told him he only had weeks to live.
Authorities also discovered that Narumanchi had applied for a volunteer position at the children’s medical center just one week prior to the incident, but he was rejected for reasons that are not yet clear.
After six hours of negotiators begging Narumanchi to back down, they made the decision to enter the building. When they entered, SWAT officers discovered both Dr. Dodson and Dr. Narumanchi already dead with gunshot wounds.
“It appeared that Dr. Narumanchi shot himself after shooting Dr. Dodson,” Austin Police said.
Dr. Dodson left behind a husband and three children.
Austin Congressman Lloyd Doggett posted a tribute on Twitter, revealing she had been his grandchildren’s pediatrician:

Very sad. Another example of the action of a person with a mental condition or just evil.
The “left & hard left” will make every effort to promote gun control/confiscation. The gun was the instrument used….it is an inanimate object, it was illegally used……the doctor committed the killing. Politicians would not blame the doctors car had he chose to commit his act with it, he would have been blamed. A scalpel (inanimate object) cannot be used for it’s intended purpose until in the hand of a surgeon. It can also be an instrument of evil. The holder of the scalpel decides.
Now, Mr. (orDR.?) Dodson is a widower, children without a mother. I pray for them. We know not the reason for this tragedy, what is known is God’s grace to sustain the Dodson family. May they rely upon Him.
Evil has been & is in “this” world. Politicians cannot legislate good or good morals. Evil always finds a way to express itself.
May God comfort DR. Dodson’s entire family, and supply them strength to cope now & as time moves on. May His Grace rain upon them!
