Magic Mushrooms Grew in This Man’s Bloodstream After Injecting Himself with Psychedelic Tea

According to a Global News report, a Nebraskan man was hospitalized after he injected himself with psychedelic tea.

The 30-year-old man tried to use psychedelic mushrooms as an alternative treatment for his bipolar disorder. His case was documented in the Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.

“Magic” mushrooms, which are often referred to as “shrooms,” are a form of edible mushrooms that contain the drug psilocybin, a hallucinogen that is commonly used in other psychedelic drugs too.

Psychedelic mushrooms are usually eaten, but some users choose to grind them up and use them in tea.

But they are not meant to be injected into the bloodstream, which is exactly what the Nebraskan man did.

The man became sick a few days after injecting the tea. He showed symptoms of jaundice, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting of blood. When he arrived at the hospital, the man was too sick to even respond to doctors.

After running tests on the man, doctors discovered that both his kidneys and liver were damaged. He was close to suffering organ failure.

But what really shocked scientists was that they discovered the fungus was growing in his blood.

The man was successfully treated using a ventilator, antibacterial medication, and anti-fungal medication before being released from his 22-day hospital stay. He is now back in good health.
