Netflix’s Latest Film Is a ‘Pedophile’s Dream’
There’s a petition going round asking for the removal of the new film “Cuties” from Netflix, saying it over sexualises children. Netflix has since issued an apology after people called out the images and description used for the film, which has won an award at Sundance Festival.
The film, which is due to be released on September 9th, is about a young girl who tries to escape her tough family life by joining and competing with a dance troop of girls her age. The synopsis for it reads: “Amy, 11, becomes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her femininity, defying her family’s traditions.” It won the World Cinema Dramatic Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival this year.
However the film is already receiving backlash, with people calling it “sick” and saying they would like to “have a word” with Netflix, which must have “lost its mind”. A petition calling for it to be cancelled before it’s even reached the site has got over 140,000 signatures.

Netflix have made a series where an 11 year old child joins a “twerk troupe” to explore her “burgeoning femininity”.
This is child erotica, and it’s sick. https://t.co/8s8VgbgRUW

The petition site reads: “This movie/show is disgusting as it sexualises an ELEVEN year old for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles and also negatively influences our children! There is no need for this kind of content in that age group, especially when sex trafficking and pedophilia are so rampant! There is no excuse, this is dangerous content!”

Netflix has a movie called “Cuties” about 11 year olds in a twerking dance group. Some of the reviews claim it’s a “commentary” on the sexualization of children but this is the poster. And keep in mind that the lead actress is actually 11 years old. In the film and real life. pic.twitter.com/4p2exeSvXw

Other comments added that the film is “disgusting”, “absolutely disgraceful” and were questioning if it could even be real. Reviews have reportedly defended the film as being a “commentary” on child sexualisation.
Netflix has since commented, saying: “We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.”
