Man Locks His Head In Cage To Stop Smoking

Health

Ibrahim Yücel from Kütahya, Turkey was a heavy smoker for over two decades until he decided to put a locked cage over his head that prevented him from physically putting a cigarette in his mouth.

He was reportedly inspired by motorbike riders wearing helmets. He used 130 feet of copper wire to make his own.

Ibrahim locked the helmet and gave the key to his family.

After Ibrahim realized he had been smoking two packs of cigarettes every single day since he was 16, he decided to make a change. And after his own dad passed away from lung cancer, Ibrahim knew it was time to stop for his own health and to watch his family grow.

The helmet was designed similar to a birdcage. Every morning, Ibrahim would leave the key to his helmet with his wife and children and go off to work.

According to the International Business Times, his previous attempts to stop smoking have always failed, which is why his wife is supportive of the latest project – despite being initially embarrassed by it.

Ibrahim is able to eat small snacks and sip on water through the helmet, but he has to be unlocked to have an actual meal.

Ibrahim’s story and pictures recently resurfaced and went viral on Reddit.

“Extreme problems require extreme actions,” one user commented.

“I have to rub my eyes and scratch the side of my nose just looking at this,” another added.

“This is just about what it takes. I smoked for 7 years and quitting was one of the hardest things I’d ever done in my life. Been nicotine free for just over three years now!” someone said.
