Egypt Challenges Elon Musk to Visit After Billionaire Tweets that “Aliens Built the Pyramids”

After tweeting that he believes that aliens built the pyramids, spacefaring billionaire, Elon Musk has been invited by Egypt to come see for himself!

Last week, the SpaceX and Tesla boss, who has been known to post controversial and tongue-in-cheek Twitter posts in the past, wrote, “Aliens built the pyramids obv.”

The Tweet prompted Egypt’s Minister of International Co-operation Rania al-Mashat to reply to Musk’s tweet the next day.

“I follow your work with a lot of admiration,” al-Mashat wrote. “I invite you & Space X to explore the writings about how the pyramids were built and also to check out the tombs of the pyramid builders. Mr. Musk, we are waiting for you.”

Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass’ response to the Space-X CEO was not nearly as whimsical or respectful, calling Musk’s statement a “complete hallucination.”

“I found the tombs of the pyramids’ builders that tell everyone that the builders of the pyramids are Egyptians and they were not slaves,” Hawass said in a video posted to Facebook.

Hours after the initial post, however, Musk tweeted a BBC History article about the lives of the pyramid builders.

“This BBC article provides a sensible summary for how it was done,” he wrote.

Egypt has more than 100 surviving pyramids today — and the Great Pyramid of Giza, standing at more than 450 feet, is the most well-known, according to the BBC. Most were built as tombs for Egypt’s royalty.
