Transgender mixed martial arts fighter Alana McLaughlin made a successful start to her career by choking out her opponent in the second round last night.

McLaughlin, who was born a man, was the first openly-transgender MMA athlete to compete in the US since 2014.

And having been rocked by opponent Celine Provost in the first of three scheduled rounds, McLaughlin fought back the second session to submit Provost by rear-naked choke.

In stepping into the cage, McLaughlin, 38, became just the second transgender woman to compete in the sport, following in the footsteps of Fallon Fox who was cageside in Miami.

Before her bout, McLaughlin, a former member of the US Army Special Forces, said: “I want to pick up the mantle that Fallon put down.

“Right now, I’m following in Fallon’s footsteps. I’m just another step along the way and it’s my great hope that there are more to follow behind me.

“If we want to see more trans athletes, if we want to see more opportunities for trans kids, we’re going to have to work out way into those spaces and make it happen.

McLaughlin had asked her mother for gender reassignment from a young age but, having grown up in a religious family, was denied and the pair no longer speak.

She went on to serve her country for six years and was awarded eight distinguished service medals but was later diagnosed with PTSD.

She only started training in MMA earlier this year having struggled to find a gym which would welcome here.

McLaughlin eventually joined MMA Masters in Florida before MMA promotion Combate eventually found an opponent willing to share the cage.

  1. This is just wrong on all levels. I hope the courts rule that there are only two sexes and that gender dysphasia is a mental illness.

    1. Concur. Note the article didn’t ID the MMA organization that allowed this farce. I would never watch that brand until they changed and apologized for ever having this farce.

  2. Unreal!!! A man’s body; a man’s strength; a man’s military training….. And, because [he] is now posing as a women, is allowed to overpower a female opponent…and feel victorious about it. Unreal!!! Don’t get it….

  3. Then, to make things worse, any oppositional comments must be review, edited and approved [by liberal media] before posting.

  4. put that thing in the ring with it’s thing friend fallon and let’s watch ’em choke each other to death! nah , just eliminate ’em. violent creatures with “mental health issues” don’t deserve to be loose or even alive ,for that matter

  5. I see the reporter was honest enough to let us know that Muscles McGurk had a nervous/mental affliction at an early age. If there were something that would change a male into a female, all sports groups admit it hasn”t been found yet….will always be muscles, male DNA, non-normal menstruation, ….well, those characteristics that make a human being a woman,.

  6. This is wrong in so many ways to allow a man to fight a woman is cheating . It is not legitimate.
Put a stop to this nonsense

  7. When is this going to stop! Men are stronger than women. EVEN if you are Transgender. How could he/she feel good about his/herself. It IS NOT a fair fight!!

  8. This coward should not had been allowed to be in the ring..The MMA made a bad decision in this case, they cheated the real figther in this case.

  9. Man fighting women is easy to decern a victory for the man. This is BS. It can’t win in a man on man competition so it has to fight a weaker opponent. How would have thought.
