Skin Graft Leaves Woman with Pubic Hair Growing on Face

Health

People are mammals and one of the characteristics that all mammals share is body hair. This hair can range from the heavy coats of fur found on mammals like muskox and sheep dogs to a very thin and fine hair found on some breeds of dogs and cats along with people.

In humans, there are several different types of hair. Of course, the familiar is the type of hair found on our heads. Except if someone is suffering from alopecia which results in a partial or total lack of all hair, the majority of the body is covered in hair. When many men go bald, what happens is that the normal hair is replaced by a very short and fine hair that is hard to see, but if you look close enough, you’ll find it’s there.

Many men grow hair on their arms, legs, chests, backs and face, as well as in their armpits and in their pubic area. The type of hair varies from the thicker and coarser pubic hair to the real thin and fine hair that’s hard to see without close examination. Men’s facial hair is often the same as their head hair or in some cases, a little coarser, but not as coarse as pubic hair.

Most women try to keep the hair on their legs and under their arms removed through various methods. Most women do not have an issue with visible facial hair, but then some do. A faint mustache is a bane to many women who end up going through all kinds of methods to prevent their mustache from showing or returning.

For one woman, having a faintly showing mustache is the least of her problem, as reported:

In one of the strangest medical cases ever, a dog bite victim has regained her confidence after doctors were able to remove an unusual skin graft on her face that had ‘literal pubic hair’ growing from it, closing the path with minimal scarring.

According to Crystal, 30, she had been living with the skin graft ever since she was a child, after a pit bull attacked her and bit a chunk out of her right cheek.

“When I was nine years old, my grandfather was holding a dog … I was actually pretty terrified of the pit bull. All I remember is black,” she said.

“The skin graft came from my groin, very close to my pubic area. It’s genital hair. I’ve tried everything you can diminish it, but you can’t take it away,” she added.

Furthermore, she also said that after the attack, the wound was open for a while, saying that its inside looked like the outside of Freddy Krueger’s face. However, her surgeon then suggested that a skin graft should be done to cover the wound. However, the skin was taken from her groin, which meant that after some time, hair started growing out of the patch on her face.

According to Crystal, it was literal pubic hair growing out of her face, even though the doctor never mentioned that something like that would happen.

Per Dr. Terry Dubrow, who appeared on an episode of the E! reality series “Botched” along with Crystal, it was unusual for the plastic surgeon to take skin from her groin area since it would be perfectly possible to take skin from a number of hair-free areas, such as her back and abdomen.

I once worked with a man who had a skin graft some years earlier due to an injury on his forehead when he was a boy. The graft was taken from his thigh, which at the time, seemed like the right thing to do. However, as the man matured, he developed quite hairy legs and a patch of noticeable hair growing on his forehead. He spent more time keeping his forehead shaved or cleared by some time of hair removing cream, than he spent shaving his beard.

The lesson learned from this odd case is that if someone needs a skin graft, it can make a huge difference where the grafted skin is taken from, especially for a younger person. At the time, a skin graft may seem no big issue, but when the youngster matures, the skin graft can develop into something very embarrassing.
