Hot Pockets Recall

Recall: Hot Pockets Filled with Glass and Hard Plastic

Food Health

Over 762,000 pounds of Hot Pockets were recalled this month due to “possible foreign matter contamination.” That “foreign matter” is apparently glass and hard plastic.

Parent company Nestlé Prepared Foods recalled the Hot Pockets after determining they may have been contaminated with “extraneous materials, specifically pieces of glass and hard plastic,” the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said in an announcement.

At least four consumers contacted Nestlé to report that their pepperoni Hot Pockets had non-edible substances in them. One person reported a “minor oral injury” after eating one of the contaminated Pockets.

The recalled products, which all have a February 2022 expiration date, contain 12 “premium pepperoni made with pork, chicken & beef pizza garlic buttery crust” Hot Pockets. They are in 54-ounce carton packages and include lot codes 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614 and 0321544614.

If you purchased one of the contaminated products, the FSIS recommends you either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

Nestlé’s Hot Pocket recall comes just a month after the company recalled approximately 92,206 pounds of their Lean Cuisine baked chicken entree, also due to hard plastic contamination.

Also this month, the US Food and Drug Administration recalled 11,371 Weis Markets ice-cream containers for being “contaminated with extraneous material, specifically metal filling equipment parts.”

“There has been one report of a customer who discovered an intact piece of metal equipment in the Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream,” the FDA said. “There is concern of an additional piece of equipment present in the ice cream product(s) possibly presenting a choking hazard.”

  1. Just how does glass get into food? You have someone putting it in. Just how many nutcase work at these food plants? This is getting way out of hand.

  2. It sounds like there might be a chance that one of Nestle’s employees aren’t as happy as the company may have thought. If I was with the Company, I’d have the FDA, FBI and the State Police investigate. This is a large Company, but for how long? Sounds like someone want the to go bely up.
