Promiscuous Sex Linked to Increase Cancer Risk

Health Sex

Someone told me recently that all of life’s pleasures cause cancer. He pointed out that red meat causes cancer and other health concerns, so we are told to only eat about 3 ounces of red meat not more than twice a week. When’s the last time you had a savory 3 ounce steak?

He said that processed meats cause cancer and that we should give all of them up. That includes bacon, ham, sausages, lunch meats and more. He said that bad carbs can cause cancer and we should limit them to only twice a week at the most. That includes, white potatoes, most breads and white rice, among others. Fried foods cause cancer, so no more French fries, fried potatoes and onions, hamburgers, fried chicken and similar foods.

Sugary foods and drinks cause cancer, so no more soda, fruit juice, cookies, pies, cakes, ice cream, candy and other sweet goodies. Barbecuing causes cancer so no more backyard cookouts. Then he pointed out that animals that live on all of the healthy foods that supposedly don’t cause cancer don’t live very long. Lastly, he shared that rabbits in the wild live on average about 1-3 and years and even pet rabbits live only 8-12 years and that he was not about to eat like a rabbit and die early like a rabbit.

He jokingly said that at least he can still have sex like a rabbit and I kidded and asked him if that didn’t lead to an early grave and he no, it’s what they eat.

A new study reveals that he still might be wrong, as reported:

Sex does not cause cancer, but your sex-centric lifestyle might.

And that’s especially true for women. According to a new study, those who had 10 or more sexual partners during their lifetime were more 91 percent more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than women with one or zero partners.

Men were not entirely spared, either. Their cancer risk rose to 64 percent after 10 or more partners, compared to those with one or none.

During the study, subjects were asked to report the number of sexual partners they’d had during their lifetime.

Men were almost three times more likely to have had 10 or more sexual partners, at a rate of 22 percent, whereas just 8 percent of women fell into the same category.

The number of different partners among women, by contrast, fell significantly compared to men. Among women, only 16 percent had been with five to nine partners.

Women with 10 or more partners were also 64 percent more likely to report a long-standing illness compared to their more chaste counterparts.

It was pointed out in the study that those who admitted to having 10 or more sexual partners also tended smoke and drink more than those with only 1 or no partners. They also tended to have a lifestyle that led them to make a number of other unhealthy choices.

What can I say? It appears that it’s not the sex but the promiscuity that creates the conditions that increase one’s risk of developing cancer. Just like everything else in life, our choices have consequences whether we realize it or not.
