Migrants Bringing Infections Over The Border?

Health Wellness

One of the defenses I’ve heard a lot over the past couple of decades from liberal Democrats is that migrants pose no real threat to the American people.

On one occasion, a lady I encountered became extremely defensive of her position to allow every and all migrants into the country. She too claimed they pose no danger to the American people. After I pointed out that thousands of Americans have been victimized by hundreds of migrants, she claimed that it happens at the hands of American citizens as well.

Then I asked her what about the many infectious diseases brought into the country by migrants. Her response was that this is a myth. I pointed out to her that it has been well documented that a number of cases of the Zika virus has shown up in migrants and that mosquitoes who bite them can then easily infect Americans by biting them, as has happened in areas known for large numbers of migrants along the southern border.

Then I pointed out that there have also been numerous cases documented of migrants entering the country carrying infectious tuberculosis and then infecting Americans, including some school children. Other illegals have been found to carry dengue fever (also known as breakbone fever), influenza, malaria and other diseases.

I’ve seen numerous reports from Border Patrol and ICE agents claiming that migrants crossing into the United States pose a major health risk to the American people due to the many different contagious diseases they carry.

More recently, it has been reported:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed nearly 900 cases of mumps at adult migrant detention facilities in the past 12 months.

The contagious disease infected 898 migrants detained by ICE in 57 facilities between Sept. 1, 2018, and Aug. 22, the CDC said Thursday.

An additional 33 staff members were also infected, the CDC said.

Most of the facilities that saw mumps outbreaks were run by private companies, while 19 were county jails and four were operated by ICE.

Almost 400 of the cases were reported from facilities that house ICE detainees in Texas.

The report claims that most of the detainees caught the virus while in detention, which may be true, but since mumps outbreaks are rare in the US among US citizens, the reported outbreaks in detention centers housing migrants has to a major health concern.

Consider the fact that more American parents have been trying to opt out of vaccinating their kids for diseases like the mumps and measles. Then consider the fact that ICE agents are being forced to release thousands of migrants from detention facilities. They are released into neighborhoods throughout the United States. Then note that the hundreds of illegals with the mumps may only be those that exhibit symptoms, but many others could be carriers of the disease without being sick and they are the ones being released onto our streets.

One person asked what’s so bad about mumps that makes this a big concern. Yes, mumps is considered a childhood disease, but in addition to running a high fever, intense headaches and muscle aches, the mumps can and does cause an inflammation of the testicles and can leave a boy, adolescent or adult sterile if the case is severed enough. I don’t know about you, but I would consider that major.
