Victor Hardley Crawley quietly slipped a note to the teller at a Chase bank in Georgia, threatening to infect the bank with COVID-19 if he didn’t receive cash.

Crawley told the bank employees that he was positive for the coronavirus, and that he would infect everyone in the bank if they did not meet his demands. However, when the teller refused to hand over the money and began to call the police, Crawley quickly left the bank.

Riverdale Police responded to the crime scene and soon identified Crawley and obtained a warrant for his arrest.  Authorities located Crawley at his residence and brought him into custody. Crawley did not resist. It is currently unclear if Crawley had actually tested positive for the virus.

According to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office police report, Crawley told authorities that he needed $2,000 to pay off bills.

Crawley is not the first person to threaten a bank with COVID-19. In October, Daquan Rashaad Crenshaw was taken into custody after threatening to “spray” a clerk with the virus. Like Crawley, his robbery attempt was unsuccessful.
