Man Leaves Millions to His Pet Dog!

family Uncategorized

They say that dogs are a man’s best friend, and one Tennessee man has set out to prove it by putting his money where his mouth is. Wealthy businessman Bill Dorris recently left five million dollars to his pet dog “Lulu.”

Dorris’ friend, Martha Burton, had already been watching Lulu for him for several years when he passed away last year, according to Nashville TV station WTVF. Dorris frequently traveled on business and needed someone to care for his beloved border collie while he was away, often for extended periods of time.

“I don’t really know what to think about it, to tell you the truth,” Burton told WTVF. “He just really loved the dog.”

Lulu is “a good girl,” Burton told the TV station.

Dorris’ will stipulated that the $5 million is to be placed in a trust to provide for Lulu’s care and that the dog should remain with Burton. Burton is to be reimbursed for normal monthly expenses as approved by a conservator managing the trust. Lulu is 8-years old.

But just because Lulu the dog is now a millionaire, that doesn’t mean Burton will be buying lavish gifts or any other expensive treats, as it likely won’t be possible to spend all the money caring for one dog.

“Well, I’d like to try,” Burton joked to WTVF.

Lulu is now 8-years old and probably has many years left to live that will hardly be a “dog’s life,” thanks to Bill Dorris.

WTVF also reported that Dorris owned land along Interstate 65, where a controversial statue of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest is located. The fate of the statue and the rest of the estate may be determined in probate court, the news outlet reported.

Although the News outlet didn’t specify what will happen to the remainder of the trust after Lulu’s death, Vanity Fair previously reported that in cases like this, any unused money typically gets left to an individual or charity.

According to WTVF, wealthy folks leaving large sums of money to their pets is more common than you might think. Hotelier and noted tax fraudster Leona Helmsley left $12 million to her dogs after she died in 2007. Businesswoman Muriel Siebert left $100,000 to her Chihuahua named Monster Girl. And actress Lauren Bacall left $10,000 for the care of her dog.
