Is There Any Real Cause to Be Concerned About Mail In Ballots?

Uncategorized

By now you have undoubtedly heard of President Trump’s worries about the widespread use of mail-in voting in November. The Democrats and his opponents would have you believe that there is no reason for concern. However, the truth is, potential voter fraud is a very real possibility with intensified mail-in voting, and that’s not even the only issue!

The president recently tweeted, “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”

This got the lefties panties all in bunch. Ever since the tweet, Democrats and left-wing pundits have been all over mainstream media, saying that Trump wants to “unconstitutionally” delay the election because he is down in the polls. Or, at the very least he is sowing the seeds of doubt of the legitimacy of a Biden win.

To the first point, ONLY the Congress has the ability to delay an election, and Trump knows that. To the second point, the president is right. Widespread mail-in voting is rife with the possibilities of voter Fraud. At the very least, it will likely draw out the election results for weeks, maybe even months, which is another thing the president is very concerned about.

As to the realities of potential fraud or abuse, mail-in ballots are more vulnerable to being altered, stolen, or forged, than any other way to vote. Just look at the current investigation going on in Paterson, New Jersey, over a recent municipal election conducted entirely by mail.

Four Paterson residents have already been charged with criminal election fraud, including a councilman and councilman-elect. Evidence is surfacing of everything from voters reporting that they never received their absentee ballots (even though they are recorded as having voted) to accusations that one of the campaigns may have submitted fraudulent ballots.

Mail-in ballots also have a higher rejection rate than votes cast in person. In the Paterson case, election officials apparently rejected 1 in 5 ballots for everything from signatures on the ballots not matching the signatures of voters on file, to ballots not complying with the technical rules that apply to absentee ballots.

New York, which has taken more than a month to count the ballots from its June 23 primary election, is also reporting a similar rejection rate. This should be considered unacceptable by anyone believing in a fair and accurate election for November.

Beyond that, how often have you had something “lost in the mail?” In the 2016 election, almost 130 million Americans voted. Does anyone really think the “highly competent” US Postal Service will be able to suddenly handle 260 million pieces of additional mail—that is, the ballots being mailed out by election officials, and then mailed back by voters?

Potential Fraud Is Not the Only Issue With Massive Mail-In Ballots

A new report from a conservative group on the potential problems with large-scale mail-in voting argues that a massive switch to mail-in balloting would not only expose states that enact such practices to possible fraud, but it could likely result in a significant waste of taxpayer dollars.

The report, by the Honest Elections Project, cites problems that have already arisen in a number of states showing that including inactive voters – including those who have changed addresses or died – would result in money being spent on ballots that would never reach their intended recipients. In addition to the waste of money, the group echoes Trump’s concern about fraud, citing past examples of how mailed ballots have been used improperly, such as voting on behalf of dead people or submitting votes in multiple states in the same election.

The idea that voting in person is “unsafe” due to the COVID-19 pandemic is a fallacy, cooked up by the Democrats, who probably would most likely reap a greater benefit from mail-in voters.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, experience shows that we can vote safely in-person as long as election officials implement the same kinds of social distancing and other safety protocols in polling places, which have allowed us to go shopping since March.

If it’s safe enough to go and wait in line for milk, cigarettes, or a six-pack of beer, it is certainly safe enough to do so to express the cornerstone of our democracy.

What do you think? Are Democrats pushing mail-in ballots to disenfranchise Trump voters?
