Have you ever shopped for a new car? You quickly learn that some models are basic, without all of the extras that are nice, but also jack the price up higher and higher. If you can afford a model with all of the extras, then great, but for many working-class Americans, they can only afford a basic model and perhaps a few extras, but not that many.

One of the problems with the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, is that they started the marketplace for healthcare policies at levels with many of the extra features that they liked and believed everyone should have regardless if you can afford it or not. They knew their system would require people to purchase far more insurance than they could afford which is why they added the individual mandate, requiring everyone to buy such a policy or be penalized come tax season.

When they set the standard up too high to start with, millions of Americans suddenly found themselves without healthcare coverage because their old policies didn’t meet the minimum requirements of Obamacare. This is one of many reasons why I claim that the Affordable Care Act had absolutely NOTHING to do with providing affordable healthcare and everything to do with forcing the American people to accept a national socialist program.

Not only did Obamacare start off with higher priced plans with many unessential bells and whistles, but the cost of those plans has increased every year, some as high as 50% and more. Part of that high cost went to cover free birth control and abortifacients for every woman in America. It didn’t matter if that went against a person’s religious beliefs, Democrats demanded it anyway.

Donald Trump and many Republicans ran for office on the promise of either replacing or repealing Obamacare and the House tried to live up to that promise, but Senate Republicans failed to do so, not once, not twice but three times, largely due to the ineptness and poor leadership of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He led the failures and they rest on his political shoulders.

In the meantime, healthcare premiums continue to climb higher and higher and more and more Americans are being forced to drop all healthcare coverage because they can’t afford it. For example, when Obamacare first went into effect, the cheapest bronze plan for my wife and me would have cost us $816 a month, and that’s with a $4,000 deductible and after the deductible is met it would only pay 60% of covered charges, and we all know what that means. The cost of anything comparable today is over $1,000 and that’s with a higher deductible. That’s a mortgage payment every month that we cannot afford and neither can many other Americans.

The Trump administration has proposed a plan to allow healthcare insurance providers to offer lower cost policies without all of the extra bells and whistles. These policies would not meet the minimum Obamacare requirements, but they would offer basic coverage to many, coverage that is so vitally needed. The plans would be short-term, no longer than 12 months and then they would need to be reviewed and renewed.

This is just what many Americans have been waiting for, but congressional Democrats are already blasting the plan and will do everything possible to block it from becoming a reality. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer commented about the plan, saying:

“Since day one, the Trump administration playbook on health care has been to sabotage the marketplaces, jack up costs and premiums for millions of middle-class Americans. Then – as a supposed life-line to a self-inflicted crisis – offering junk insurance that fails to offer protections for those with pre-existing conditions or coverage of essential health benefits and more.”

Let me see if I get this straight. Democrats like Schumer claim to be the party of the working class while accusing Republicans of being the party of the wealthy, but when the Republicans offer something the working class can afford, they balk and call it junk. This is just like when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi referred to the bonuses thousands of Americans were getting as a result of the tax cuts as crumbs. Folks, I know a lot of working class Americans who would be so grateful for a $1,000 bonus and none of them would think it was just crumbs.

Democrats are completely out of touch with working class America. They don’t want to provide them with anything they can afford, but they are ready and willing to keep increasing their taxes until all they have left to give is blood.
