Alex Trebek Replaced By George Stephanopoulos?

ABC News host George Stephanopoulos’ representatives are reportedly already pushing for him to replace the late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, who died Sunday at age 80 from pancreatic cancer.

Stephanopoulos has been eyeing the job for a while. His agent has been “lobbying hard” for him to do it, according to TheWrap, which cited a “highly placed person” who has knowledge of the situation.

Stephanopoulos, the former Democratic operative, serves as a political correspondent to ABC News and co-host of “Good Morning America.” The station owns the syndication rights to “Jeopardy!”

The beloved game show, which Trebek hosted for 36 years, is distributed by CBS Television and produced by Sony Television.

A source at ABC denied the TheWrap’s report, however, saying, “Of course he’s not lobbying … how disrespectful would that be to Alex’s family.”

Radio host Howard Stern floated the idea of replacing Trebek to Stephanopoulos during an interview in May, according to the New York Post. “The first thing I said was ‘George Stephanopoulos’ and everyone went, ‘That ain’t crazy,”’ Stern told him. “You’ve got the intellectual capacity.”

“I think it would be a lot of fun, but I like what I’m doing too,” Stephanopoulos responded. “I am not going to be Shermanesque about it. It’s a great show … It’s very flattering. Big shoes to fill.”

“It’s a show that wouldn’t damage your reputation,” Stern added. “There is a certain gravitas. It’s for brighter people. It would make you look good.”

Trebek died Sunday following a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He reportedly spent his last day looking at the horizon on his swing next to his wife, Jean, according to the show’s executive producer, Mike Richards. “Even in his book, he described that he wanted his final day to be sitting on his swing next to his wife, Jean, and kind of watching the horizon and he got to do that,” Richards said.

  1. I thought the young guy who won do many shows was slated to be the new host. And rebek wanted that. He would be my pick.

  2. Not the right person for the show. To political. Would lose to Mini conservative viewers. He’s to liberal.

  3. George S., what a duplicitous hypocritical Clintonian little runt. Will avoid him and his ilk like the plague.

  4. That would be the end of my watching Jeopardy. Don’t need someone with a long-time political position hosting a show that should be benign. Get an unknown with no history of political activism.

  5. This is really a Babylon Bee article, right? Replacing Alex with George would be a sacrilege. I’ll never watch again. :et Alex rest in peace.

  6. If this happens, because we are Patriots, we will never watch our favorite program again. You can’t replace GOOD with EVIL

  7. If George Stephanopoulos is new hos…I will not be watching Jeopardy anymore. I have watched it almost every night forever. You would probably lose many loyal viewers. Can’t stand the arrogance of George S. , Alex Trebek would want someone with integrity to replace him….What about Ken Jennings?

  8. George Stephanopulus is a very bad choice to replace Alex Trebek.
George is a classless lying liberal idiot. I would never watch again.
    RIP Alex 🙏

  9. Well, go right ahead and replace wonderful, respected Alex Trebek with lying, George Stephanopolus and you will lose most of your audience! No one cares to watch lying George on that program and am sure that Alex Trebek would be very disappointed to see that happen too!

  10. I hope a Stephanopoulous with no class or personality does not replace the classy Alex Trebek. He will ruin the show. They need Buzzy or Jennings. They would be much better and more recognized by those that have watched and enjoyed the show for generations.

  11. The idea that he would even be considered to replace Alex is unbelievable. Alex was never judgemental or a hypocrite. George on the other hand is the most judgemental, arrogant, self-righteous individual. I don’t even watch the morning show anymore because of the attitudes. The last straw was how George was so “oh my gosh” over President Trump and Einstein, never giving him a break even though the President distanced himself from him. But then it came out that George had actually dined with the man, but oh that was different.

It is amazing to me how our news media has turned into another reality show because they certainly no longer tell the truth about anything. Whatever happened to journalism and finding the truth before you tell a story.

George to replace Alex, what a travesty.

  12. If that’s the case we will cross Jeopardy off our list! Ken Jennings or some brilliant, polite person should host the show. ,No political or news figure, no college professor, they are all about their own accomplishments. Alex was never that way, he had a gift of being brilliant but never staying in the spotlight. He put contestants first, respect for everyone first.
