For many years, heart disease has been the number 1 cause of death in the United States. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the leading causes of death in the United States in 1950 were, in order – heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory diseases, accidents, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, influenza/pneumonia, kidney disease and septicemia.
